Whaler’s Island
Nantucket is an island in the North Atlantic and the former home of the whaling industry. Herman Melville drew his inspiration for Moby Dick from the island’s former inhabitants. Today, the island is protected by strict standards that require new constructions to be built in the same style as old ones.
The interiors of the homes are decorated simply in a style appropriate to their surroundings.
The wooden walkway connecting the houses to the sea matches the clapboard siding and shingled roofs of the houses themselves. The interiors of the homes are decorated simply in a style appropriate to their surroundings, using wood and light colors accented with splashes of color: the yellow of fisherman’s raincoats or the bright red used to paint certain buildings to camouflage the blood of slaughtered whales.
A projection room was built on the lower level to screen films produced by the owner.
