With the arrival of winter and the shorter days, lighting is a particular issue, as it contributes to our daily comfort regardless of the season. For the Liaigre team, light is a matter that is given a lot of thought in a project and the principle of a made to measure service.
Over time, the creative studio has designed a large number of lights that meet all uses: ceiling lamps, wall lights, floor and table lamps that illuminate and embellish our interiors.
Considering and organizing light in different living spaces is at the heart of any architectural project: it is a question of planning, but also of preference. Light sources have to be distributed according to needs and offer the right amount of privacy. It is necessary to create an atmosphere appropriate for work or exchanges, and above all approach all environments (houses, apartments, resorts, yachts) and spaces in a unique way, whilst taking into account the user’s wishes.
Lighting plays a crucial role in the perception we have of our interiors. It influences our emotions and feelings: a soft light in a room,
a reading corner or a desk, calms and gives a feeling of comfort; whilst a bright light in a reception room creates a festive atmosphere…
In contrast, the most elegant interior loses its appeal if the lighting is not right. The task is tricky because it is not enough to multiply the lighting spots to create harmonious lighting. Once again, a balance has to be found together with the creation of a link between one space and another.
Planning the lighting design of a space is setting the scene: You can amplify the space or turn it into a cozy cocoon, playing on chiaroscuro effects to dramatize the architecture, taking into account the tones of the walls, floors, ceilings and dominant colors, … You need to also anticipate alternating daylight (natural light) and artificial light and take advantage of the two very different atmospheres.
Each room of the house, as well as each type of habitat depending on its location, requires its own lighting: the atmosphere of a town house is not the same as that of a mountain chalet, or a residence by the water, or even a yacht!
The climate and natural light must be taken into consideration. The choice of lighting is therefore very important, as revealed in the different Liaigre projects around the world… In most cases, light fixtures (as with different furniture items designed by the studio) are created in the particular context of an architectural project before going into production.
Torches, oil lamps, candles, candelabras, oil lamps, up till the arrival of electricity and the first light bulbs, lighting has been a challenge and difficulty people have had to deal with for a long time. Since ancient times, most of the usual objects were subject to aesthetic research: craftsmen endeavored to create beautiful lighting objects and in particular, invented bronze candelabras and hanging lamps to decorate the noble Etruscan and Roman homes. The quest for beauty went through history and the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries competed in elegance, with chandeliers and girandoles adorned with pendants of rock crystal or cut glass, while the Venetian glassmakers of Murano magnified blown glass with all it colors to decorate the ceilings of the palaces of the Serenissima. The range of shapes and styles continued to increase throughout the nineteenth century up until the twentieth century, with vast array of options.
