Since creating the interior of the Mercer Hotel in 1997, Liaigre has refurbished and designed several prestigious places in the “city that never sleeps,” always bringing to the fore the heritage of the spaces it occupies. The house of Liaigre opened in 2018 a new showroom in the heart of Manhattan.

New York seemed the obvious choice of a city to represent the development of the eponymous label.

In all of Manhattan, SoHo is the only neighborhood devoid of skyscrapers. In a few decades, this district has become the trendiest neighborhood in New York. Except perhaps for those who have made their fortunes, artists have left the neighborhood, and a new class of photographers, advertising people and producers have moved in. The district has lost its bohemian character but has managed to retain the lively atmosphere it is known for. This is what is appealing about it.

Checking into the Mercer Hotel means getting settled in an André Balazs loft decorated entirely by Christian Liaigre, where major New York designers have already stayed. Liaigre considers that “decoration should not be a fashion” and the Mercer offers elegance and comfort in a setting of subtle contemporary luxury where gusts are availed of all the amenities.

What its name implies is confirmed: the New York Public considers itself open by virtue of its volumes that are as vast as the city and its imposing escalator inspired by Donald Judd – the whole effect presenting a striking contrast with the charmingminimalist rooms. The decorator had to combine the grandiose with the warm and cozy, and preserve the hotel’s elegance and discretion while making it fit into a cool, sophisticated setting.

Ian Schrager’s gamble was a little crazy, but you need courage to redefine the contemporary hotel business.

Delighted by his penthouse in the heart of Manhattan, Ian Schrager turned to Liaigre again to fit out his hotel facing Madison Square Park.

Liaigre approached this project using the special character of Midtown as a springboard, and the result is a project that combines the grandeur of a city with the touches of privacy that intersperse these spaces open to guests, combining lightness and delicate melancholy.

The new Madison Avenue showroom meets the needs of the dynamic New York market, testifying to Liaigre’s determination to give its creations greater visibility. The concept was conceived as a real design project to unveil the quintessence of the Liaigre spirit and style: simplicity, noble materials and refined details.

With an architecture that revisits its codes (generous proportions, solid wood, bold, no-frills and functional design), the house of Liaigre alternately exhibits 400 references from the catalogue, available in numerous finishes, alongside works of contemporary art.
